2006 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster assembly on 2006 Toyota Corolla?
A: Before starting vacuum brake booster assembly service and repair you need to drain brake fluid while removing fluid contact from painted surfaces. First detach both the air cleaner cap sub-assembly along with the air cleaner case sub-assembly by way of removing the air cleaner element followed by the 3 bolts. The vehicle needs Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to take out the brake master cylinder sub-assembly before breaking the brake master cylinder push rod clevis apart. Detach the cruise control actuator assembly using the tool to remove its 2 nuts and bolt then place it to one side. Use Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to disconnect the front brake tube No.5 and then move the clip to break the vacuum hose connection and remove the 2 or 3 brake tubes from the clamp. After removing the 4 nuts and push rod clevis you can pull out the brake booster assembly. Take out the brake booster gasket together with the check valve assembly which includes a grommet from inside the brake booster assembly. The proper installation sequence begins with grommet and check valve assembly while using a new brake booster gasket. The push rod clevis installation requires setting brake pedal height through the lock nut torquing procedure. Put back the brake booster assembly using 4 nuts then torque to 12.7 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) and attach the 2 or 3 brake tubes to their clamp before vacuum hose connection. Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 must be used to attach the front brake tube No.5 while torquing it to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) to verify proper grommet placement. After installing the front wheel LH with correct torque to a value of 103 Nm the technician can proceed to mount the cruise control actuator assembly and bracket using two bolts and nuts which should be tightened to 43 Nm. Install the brake master cylinder push rod clevis through the sub-assembly with Special Service Tool: 09023-00101. First install the air cleaner case sub-assembly with three bolts then put on the air cleaner cap sub-assembly. The reservoir requires brake fluid then the master cylinder needs bleeding using Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 together with brake line bleeding. Conclude the installation by testing and setting the pedal height along with free play and reserve distance and checking fluid level and looking for leaks from the reservoir.
