2007 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2007 Toyota Corolla?
A: Vacuum brake booster repair procedures must start with brake fluid drainage followed by cleaning of paint surfaces that come into contact with fluid. You must remove the air cleaner cap sub-assembly and the air cleaner case sub-assembly through uninstalling the air cleaner element while removing and the 3 bolts. Affix a hoist to the front of the engine compartment and then take off the brake master cylinder sub-assembly and split the brake master cylinder push rod clevis. To remove the brake booster assembly utilize Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to detach front brake tube No. 5 while applying the clip to detach the vacuum hose and extracting the 2 or 3 brake tubes from the clamp along with pulling out the brake booster assembly. Remove both the brake booster gasket and the check valve assembly with its grommet from inside the brake booster assembly. Begin by installing the grommet then the check valve assembly before applying a new brake booster gasket. Connect the push rod clevis to its component while tightening the lock nut but before torque adjustment allow the adjustment of brake pedal height. Attach the 4 brake booster assembly nuts while torquing them to 12.7Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) and connect the vacuum hose to the 2 or 3 brake tubes clamped to the assembly. To connect the front brake tube No. 5 use Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 while torquing it to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) and making sure the grommet sits properly. Re-mount the front wheel LH while applying 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm) torque followed by attaching the brake master cylinder push rod clevis before installing the brake master cylinder sub-assembly. Set the air cleaner case sub-assembly in place through 3 bolts then assemble the air cleaner cap sub-assembly. Follow the process of filling the brake fluid reservoir and using Special Service Tool 09023-00101 to bleed the master cylinder as well as the brake line. The technician needs to check the brake pedal height as well as free play and reserve distance before inspecting the fluid level inside the reservoir and searching for brake fluid leaks and inspecting the brake booster assembly.
