2007 Toyota Corolla Speed Sensor Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the wheel speed sensor on 2007 Toyota Corolla?
A: Service and repair operations of the wheel speed sensor begin by taking out the rear wheel after removing the rear brake drum sub-assembly for TMMC and TMC made drum types. Disconnect the skid control sensor wire through removing its connector from the sensor. Proceed by removing first the left-hand side rear axle hub and bearing assembly and then extract the skid control sensor by mounting the rear axle hub into a soft jaw vise. The axle hub assembly must receive replacement after any situation where it experiences a drop or strong impact. A pin punch and hammer should be used to extract the two pins followed by the removal of two attachments using Specific Tools including 09520-00031 (09520-00040), 09521-00020, 09950-00020 and two 12 mm diameter 1.5 mm pitch bolts. A new axle hub assembly must be used when the sensor rotor shows damage and technicians must avoid scratching the axle hub's contacting surface where it meets the speed sensor. To install the sensor clean both the axle hub contacting surface and the new speed sensor carefully while avoiding the attachment of foreign material to the sensor rotor. To install the speed sensor on the axle hub position it with the connector at its lowest point on the vehicle using Special Service Tool: 09214-76011 along with a press. The left-hand rear axle hub and bearing assembly must be returned to its original position and the skid control sensor wire should be reconnected while both TMMC and TMC made drum types require reinstallation of their respective brake drum sub-assemblies. Install the rear wheel after tightening it to 103 N.m (1,050 kgf.cm, 76 ft.lbf) while checking the ABS speed sensor signal for complete functionality alongside ABS and VSC systems.
