2006 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the drive belt on 2006 Toyota Avalon?
A: The drive belt replacement for the 2GR-FE engine begins with removing the front wheel RH then the front fender apron seal RH after which you must detach the V-bank cover sub-assembly. Start by using Special Service Tool: 09249-63010 to loosen the belt tension using control movements on the belt tensioner until you may remove the fan and generator V belt from the tensioner. Insert a 5 mm bi-hexagon wrench through the holes of the belt tensioner during counterclockwise motion. The V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly requires inspection through clockwise and counterclockwise spinning to verify no component is caught; in case a problem emerges replace the tensioner. Installation of the fan and generator V belt begins with V-ribbed belt placement followed by Special Service Tool: 09249-63010 usage to untwist the belt tensioner while removing the bar. The belt installation process becomes easier when you first set the belt onto all pulleys apart from the tensioner pulley, afterward you can release tension through counterclockwise movement of the belt tensioner to position the belt on the tensioner pulley. The front belt surface should face the tensioner pulley and idler pulley while checking that the drive belt rests correctly on both pulleys. The last step involves placing the V-bank cover sub-assembly and the front wheel RH followed by wheel torquing to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.).
