2006 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Brake Master Cylinder with Plate Cylinder Sub-Assembly on 2006 Toyota Avalon?
A: The first step to replace the Brake Master Cylinder with Plate Cylinder Sub-Assembly requires draining brake fluid while washing off fluid residues from painted surfaces. Control the air cleaner assembly then detach the level warning switch connector as you remove the 6 brake tubes from the brake master with plate cylinder sub-assembly using Special Service Tool: 09023-00101. Disconnect the 2 nuts from the assembly and extract the 2-way and brake master with plate cylinder sub-assembly. Brake booster assembly vacuum confirmation requires depressing the brake pedal multiple times when engine is off followed by inspection of brake booster push rod adjustment. The replacement of a new brake master cylinder sub-assembly requires adjustment but no adjustment is needed when reinstalling an existing one. Measure the brake booster push rod clearance against an accessory tool using chalk applied to the tip of the tool while resting it on the brake booster assembly because the clearance should be 0mm (0 inch). Use Special Service Tool: 09737-00020 to measure and adjust clearance while decreasing the brake pedal depression to the necessary extent. The master cylinder with plate assembly and 2-way installation requires torquing the 2 nuts to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) before connecting six brake tubes through Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 and torquing to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Next, the level warning switch connector must be reattached. Bleed the master cylinder and brake line with Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 as the final procedures involve checking the reservoir fluid level and inspecting brake fluid leakage.
