2006 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Rear Left Air Bag Sensor on 2006 Toyota Avalon?
A: The service precautions for Air Bag systems must be followed prior to Rear Left Air Bag Sensor replacement. The Air Bag deployment will be prevented by waiting for 90 seconds while maintaining a negative battery terminal cable disconnection. The service requires removal of the rear seat cushion assembly combined with the rear seat back assembly LH and the rear door scuff plate LH and the rear door opening trim Weather Strip LH and finally the rear seat side garnish LH. First disconnect the connector from the rear LH Air Bag sensor before removing its bolt and sensor. Place the new Air Bag sensor rear LH while using the bolt by maintaining the ignition switch off and cutting off the battery negative terminal with a torque at 9.0 N.m (92 kgf.cm, 80 in.lbf). Replace the sensor immediately if you detect either damage on it or find it in its dropped state. After wiring the SRS system check that it maintains distance from all other components then inspect every connection for looseness. Reinstall the rear seat side garnish LH followed by the rear door opening trim Weather Strip LH and the rear door scuff plate LH before installing the rear seat back assembly LH and rear seat cushion assembly. Afterward reconnect the connector to the Air Bag sensor rear LH in succession. Perform Front Power Seat Control System initialization through the negative battery terminal after any instance of battery disconnect or replacement of the D/C CUT fuse or power seat switch or assembly. The manual procedure for initializing the power seat ECU begins with moving the seat panel forward, bending the seatback forward and lifting the headrest, following with the complete backward movement of the seat and a backward bent seatback with lowered seat cushion and headrest. The check of SRS warning light completes the inspection process.
