  • Q: How to remove and install a radiator on 2006 Scion tC?
A: The radiator removal process begins by disconnecting the negative battery cable and waiting for at least 90 seconds to avoid triggering Air Bags and seat belts pretensioners. Complete the engine coolant drain procedure afterward separate the engine under cover at the right-hand side. Unplug the radiator hose inlet and outlet and cut the connection between the No. 1 oil cooler inlet and outlet tubes that serve the automatic transaxle. The radiator assembly removal sequence includes disconnecting 2 cooling fan motor connectors and the 2 clamps of engine room main wire and radiator reservoir hose before taking out 2 bolts and 2 radiator support uppers. The radiator support upper becomes replaceable after uninstalling both bolts from the assembly then disconnecting its 2 pawl fittings. You should start your installation process by connecting the 2 pawl fittings of the shroud before you install the fan assembly with its 2 bolts which need to be torqued up to 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.). First snugly install the radiator support lower before fulfilling the radiator assembly along with its 2 radiator support uppers then securely fasten the 2 bolts with torques at 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). The procedure requires attachment of the radiator reservoir hose alongside the connection of 2 clamps of engine room main wire and 2 cooling fan motor connectors. Complete the automatic transaxle No. 1 oil cooler installation by connecting its outlet and inlet tubes before installing the outlet and inlet for the radiator hose. Open the negative battery terminal cable then put in engine coolant before reconnecting to the negative terminal and verifying engine coolant leakages. Users must initialize all systems after reconnecting and disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal before installing the engine under cover RH.
