2006 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to properly remove and install an A/C Condenser on 2006 Scion tC?
A: The first step to remove the condenser HVAC consists of disconnecting the negative cable battery terminal followed by waiting 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. The maintenance process requires disconnecting the No.1 cooler refrigerant discharge hose after removing the bolt with its O-ring seal. Then use vinyl tape to seal the hose openings for moisture and foreign matter protection. The second step involves disconnecting the cooler refrigerant liquid pipe when you remove its 2 bolts and O-ring from each opening and reseal them with vinyl tape. Wrench off the radiator support upper bracket through the process of removing two bolts together with two brackets and then disconnect the hood lock assembly with three bold detentions. The procedure starts with removing both low pitched and high pitched horn assemblies followed by removing the radiator support upper bracket through bolt and nut removal. Uninstall the last component which is the cooler condenser assembly. For installation begin by mounting first the cooler condenser assembly then install the radiator support upper with 5 bolts and 2 nuts that need torquing to 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf). Install the hood lock assembly first and follow it with the high pitched and low pitched horn assemblies before completing with the 3 bolts installation. Install the radiator support upper bracket through its two brackets using two bolts secured at 19 N.m of torque (194 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf). When installing the cooler refrigerant liquid pipe apply compressor oil (ND-OIL 8 or equivalent) to an O-ring and the fitting surface before installing the ring and connecting the pipe through two bolts which should be torqued to 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf). Attach the No.1 cooler refrigerant discharge hose using the bolt while using compressor oil on a fresh O-ring and tightening to 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf). Complete the adjustment of hood sub-assembly then connect the cable to negative battery terminal and finish initialization tests when needed and charge the refrigerant system before engine warm up alongside refrigerant leakage checks.
