2007 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install an A/C Condenser on 2007 Scion tC?
A: The condenser removal process begins with disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable followed by a minimum 90-second wait time to avoid activating Air Bags and seat belts pretensioners. The refrigeration system needs its refrigerant discharged before technicians can disconnect the No. 1 cooler refrigerant discharge hose by removing its bolt and O-ring. They should apply vinyl tape to seal openings to block moisture and foreign matter from entering. The process continues with removing 2 bolts and O-ring from the cooler refrigerant liquid pipe and properly sealing all exposed points with vinyl tape. The radiator support upper bracket must first lose its 2 bolts along with 2 brackets before disconnecting the hood lock assembly through its 3 bolt removal. First, disconnect both the low pitched and high pitched horn assemblies before proceeding to take out the radiator support upper by removing 5 bolts and 2 nuts. As the last step remove the cooler condenser assembly. To install the condenser you must join it first and then add 40 cc (1.4 fl. oz.) ND-8 or equivalent compressor oil when using a new unit. The radiator support upper installation requires 5 bolts and 2 nuts that need torquing to 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf) while the high pitched and low pitched horn assemblies and hood lock assembly with 3 bolts complete the sequence. Secure the radiator support upper bracket into position through installing two bolts which need 19 N.m (194 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf) torque. Install the cooler refrigerant liquid pipe using 2 bolts which require torque at 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf) after pressing new O-ring and fitting surface with ND-OIL 8 or equivalent compressor oil. You should perform this same procedure for the No. 1 cooler refrigerant discharge hose by applying compressor oil to the new O-ring before fitting. Reinstallation of the hood sub-assembly must be followed by connection to the negative battery terminal and system initialization based on manufacturer requirements following the installation. The technician should begin by charging the refrigerant then heat the engine while conducting a scan for any refrigerant leakages.
