2005 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser on 2005 Scion tC?
A: The first step to replace the cooler condenser assembly requires the usage of Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080) to evacuate refrigerants from the refrigeration system. The bolt and O-ring of cooler refrigerant discharge hose No.1 need removal for both ends to receive vinyl tape sealing to keep out moisture and foreign matter. Set up the procedure for replacing the cooler condenser assembly by taking out two bolts and O-ring from cooler refrigerant liquid pipe A followed by sealing off all openings with vinyl tape. Begin by removing the two bolts from the radiator support upper then detach the hood lock assembly after unscrewing three bolts before disconnecting both horn assemblies in their descending and ascending order. The radiator support upper requires removal after you extract its 5 bolts and 2 nuts before you can take out the cooler condenser assembly. Position and fasten the new cooler condenser assembly with 2 nuts and 5 bolts on both sides of the radiator support upper until torque reaches 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 87 in.lbf). Attach the automotive parts starting with both horns (high pitched and low pitched) before adding the hood lock assembly with 3 securing bolts. Use 2 bolts to install the radiator support upper while torquing them to 19 N.m (194 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf). To connect pipe A of the refrigerant cooler with new O-rings and compressor oil, remove vinyl tape from the pipe then install the O-ring onto both surfaces before securing the pipe using 2 bolts torquing them to 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf). Perform the same procedure for cooler refrigerant discharge hose No.1 after applying compressor oil to the new O-ring before installing it with the bolt which requires a 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf) torque. Special Service Tools 07117-48130, 07117-48140, 07110-58060 (07117-58060, 07117-58070, 07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080) should be used to charge the refrigerant to 400 plus or minus 30 g (14.1 plus or minus 1.1 oz.), then warm up the engine while checking for refrigerant leaks.
