- Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2005 Toyota Tundra?A: Start your repair of the Power Steering Vane Pump (2UZ-FE) by checking its rotating torque with a torque wrench which should show less than 0.28 Nm (2.8 kgf-cm, 2.4 inch lbs.) while the pump rotates smoothly without unusual sounds. Start by removing the suction port union bolts and O-ring and then proceed with taking off the pressure port union and flow control valve and spring but also extract the O-ring from the pressure port union. To detach the rear housing you need to remove its 4 bolts yet if the wave washer and side plate are stubborn light taps with a plastic hammer will help unstick them allowing you to take out the 2 O-rings from the rear housing. First remove the wave washer then take out the side plate along with its gasket before dissassembling the cam ring, ten vane plates and the vane pump rotor while avoiding plate drops with a screwdriver to extract the snap ring from the vane pump shaft. To complete the procedure remove the vane pump shaft together with its attached vane pump pulley followed by extraction of the 2 straight pins from the front housing.
