• Q: How to replace the Shift Cable ASSY (ATM) on 2005 Toyota Tacoma?

  A: You must start replacement of the TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSY (ATM) by taking out the SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY, CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSY, CONSOLE BOX ASSY REAR, INSTRUMENT PANEL CUP HOLDER TRAY, and CONSOLE BOX FRONT components. You must start by disconnecting the transmission control cable from shift lever assembly while removing its clip and cable. Following this step, unmount VOLTAGE INVERTER ASSY (W/ VOLTAGE INVERTER) then disconnect the TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSY from the same assembly. Unscrew the two nuts before pulling away the cable assembly from the body and afterward remove the additional nut before disconnecting the cable bracket. Follow the procedure by installing the new TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSY while securing it with a 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.) torque value and finishing with the cable bracket and lock plate. Use 5.5 Nm torque as you fasten the cable nut to the body before adding two more nuts which should also be tightened to 5.5 Nm. The cable with lock plate needs installation onto floor shift assembly after connecting to the floor shift assembly first. Put back the VOLTAGE INVERTER ASSY (W/ VOLTAGE INVERTER) and CONSOLE BOX FRONT along with INSTRUMENT PANEL CUP HOLDER TRAY, CONSOLE BOX ASSY REAR, CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSY, and SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY.
