2005 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the exhaust pipe assembly on 2005 Toyota Tacoma?
A: Service of the 2TR-FE exhaust pipe starts with disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable. Service technicians must use tool 09224-00010 to detach the air fuel ratio sensor which needs to be followed by removal of the oxygen sensor. Start by removing the exhaust pipe assembly tail by unfastening its 2 bolts and 2 nuts along with detaching it from the 4 exhaust pipe supports to extract the gasket from in front of the pipe. The exhaust pipe assembly front processing requires removal of 2 bolts together with 2 compression springs before detaching the front from the exhaust pipe support to extract the gasket from the exhaust manifold. Before installing the exhaust pipe assembly front it is vital to measure the compression spring length using vernier calipers; an acceptable reading should show 40.5 mm (1.594 inch) and a new spring should be obtained if this measurement is obstructed. Equip the exhaust manifold gasket with a wooden block secured by a plastic-faced hammer to insert the fresh gasket until it reaches flush position without using the previous gasket. Seamlessly fit the exhaust pipe front section to the exhaust pipe support while torquing both bolts and springs to 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). Order a new gasket and position it on the exhaust pipe front before you mount the tail to the 4 exhaust pipe supports using the 2 bolts and 2 nuts tightened to 48 Nm (489 kgf-cm, 35 ft. lbs.). After using Service Tool 09224-00010 to replace the oxygen sensor, install the air fuel ratio sensor and reconnect the negative battery cable with proper torque of 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 inch lbs.). Exhaust gas leakage requires the last step in the examination.
