2006 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the exhaust pipe on 2006 Toyota Tacoma?
A: Starting the process of exhaust pipe repair requires the cable removal from the negative battery terminal. Both remove the air fuel ratio sensor and the oxygen sensor from the system. Detach the exhaust pipe tail by removing two bolts and two nuts and unscrewing it from the four exhaust pipe supports and retrieving the gasket from the exhaust pipe front. The exhaust pipe front service requires removal of two bolts followed by two compression springs and detachment of the front piece from the exhaust pipe support ending with gasket removal from the exhaust manifold. Before installing the exhaust pipe assembly front check the compression spring's free length with vernier calipers. Keep the measurement at 40.5 mm (1.594 inch). Replace the compression spring in case it needs attention. Use a wooden block and plastic-faced hammer to insert a new gasket on the exhaust manifold until it is evenly flush while maintaining proper gasket alignment and avoid using the previous gasket. The exhaust pipe front installation requires the 2 bolts and 2 compression springs to be tightened to 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). Place a fresh gasket onto the exhaust pipe front while installation of the tail onto its 4 exhaust pipe supports until securing all 2 bolts and 2 nuts to 48 Nm (489 kgf-cm, 35 ft. lbs.) torque. To complete the procedure, install the oxygen sensor together with the air fuel ratio sensor then reconnect the negative battery cable with 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 inch lbs.) torque while conducting an exhaust gas leakage test.
