2005 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the windshield glass on a convertible on 2005 Toyota Solara?
A: Your first step in replacing a convertible windshield involves taking out its inner mirror assembly and roof headliner assembly. This means removing front door scuff plates from both left and right sides, cowl side trims, front door openings with their Weather Strips, front pillar garnishes, visors with holders, the map lamp lens, its body, and the roof headlining. Take out the removable Weather Strip at the front of the roof by cutting through it with a knife to protect the body of the vehicle. Fit piano wires between vehicle body and windshield glass before attaching handles to wire ends through protective tape on exterior body surface. Press the piano wire through the cause to release the stoppers before peeling off the windshield glass using a suction cup while leaving the remaining adhesive on the vehicle body. Polish the windshield glass by removing broken stoppers and retainers before cleaning the edges with white gasoline while staying away from the surface. Remove extra adhesive from the contact surface then apply a specialist cleaner to it. Before installation insert windshield glass stopper No. 2 by spreading Primer G on the installation part and waiting three minutes before installing two new stoppers on the windshield glass. Install two new stoppers across the vehicle body for windshield glass stopper No. 1. Mark off parts D and E on top of the inner windshield edge before you place double-sided tape there. Let Primer G dry on the windshield adhesive dams for 3 minutes and install two new retainers onto the glass. While the 3 minutes dry cycle proceeds for Primer M at the body touchpoints apply Primer G to the windshield glass and let it settle for another 3 minutes. Add adhesive Part No. 08850-00801 or its equivalent to the windshield glass and work with it immediately after cutting the cartridge nozzle. Position the windshield against the body frame at the mark points then push it into place but avoid allowing it to touch the surface. Keep a minimal space open between the vehicle body and the windshield glass. Protect the installed glass with tape until the adhesive forms its strong bond. Before placing the new upper molding apply Primer G to the windshield glass surface then examine the finished parts for leaks and use automotive sealer to seal them if needed.
