2004 Toyota Solara Windshield Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the windshield glass on a convertible on 2004 Toyota Solara?
A: The windshield glass replacement process begins by removing the inner rear view mirror assembly along with the roof headlining assembly through a sequence of disconnections including front door scuff plates, cowl side trims, front door opening trim Weather Strips, front pillar garnishes, visors, visor holders, map lamp lens, map lamp body and roof headlining. Proceed by taking appropriate measures to delete the removable roof Weather Strip front and outer upper windshield moulding by precisely using a knife for severing links to protect the vehicle body. Secure piano wires between the vehicle body and windshield glass then attach hand tools through handles that fasten to wire ends while using protective tape on the exterior vehicle body surface. Apply the piano wires to cut through adhesive while removing stoppers before using a suction cup to separate the windshield glass from its place while preserving as much adhesive on the vehicle body. First scrape off all damaged stoppers, retainers, dams and adhesive from the windshield glass and afterward clean its outside edges with white gasoline. Clean the vehicle body contact surface by removing extra adhesive before cleaning it with a suitable tool. Windshield glass stopper Number Two needs Primer G application followed by drying before installation of two new stoppers onto the windshield glass. Place windshield glass stopper No. 1 on the vehicle body and install two fresh retainers on the windshield glass. Apply Primer G to the installation part of windshield adhesive dams before drying followed by double-sided tape placement on the windshield glass perimeter except for sections D and E. Suction-based glass positioning should maintain even contact when installing the new glass. Apply Primer G to the contact surface of the windshield glass after which both components must have time to dry. Apply Part No. 08850-00801 adhesive or equivalent to the windshield glass surface before installing it on the vehicle body while matching the marked areas and applying gentle pressure to the rim. Protective tape should be used to secure the windshield glass while the adhesive hardens. Primer G must be applied to the windshield glass contact area before installing the new outer upper windshield moulding while performing a leak test after the adhesive dries up so you can use auto glass sealer for any detected leaks.
