2005 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake master cylinder on 2005 Toyota Solara?
A: Start with draining brake fluid before servicing or repairing the brake master cylinder while washing off all adhered fluid from painted surfaces. The technician should disconnect the level warning switch connector followed by using Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to detach the 6 brake tubes before removing the air cleaner assembly and brake master cylinder sub-assembly. First detach the 2 nuts then pull the 2-way and brake master cylinder sub-assembly out from the vehicle. Passage execution begins by taking out the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly before straining the reservoir while using a screw to remove the reservoir sub-assembly. Start by removing the 2 master cylinder reservoir grommets before proceeding to remove the brake master cylinder kit without VSC by installing the master cylinder into a vise and removing the O-ring and pushing in the piston then using snap ring pliers to take out the snap ring. Use the piston pushing motion to extract the piston stopper bolt and gasket while pulling out No. 1 piston sub-assembly straight until the cylinder bore remains protected. To remove the No. 2 piston sub-assembly place a shop rag at least 100 mm (3.94 inches) from two wooden blocks while easing it out. Follow the VSC removal process when the kit contains VSC by first removing the straight pin after using a screwdriver to push in the piston. Install a new gasket and piston stopper bolt with torque set at 10 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.) for the brake master cylinder kit without VSC after applying lithium soap base glycol grease to new No. 1 and No. 2 piston sub-assemblies and inserting these parts while avoiding rubber lip damage. To install the No. 2 piston in the kit with VSC follow the step of placing the groove horizontally before putting in the straight pin and snap ring. Before installation of the master cylinder place a new O-ring that has been treated with lithium soap base glycol grease. Add the grommets to the master cylinder reservoir then install the sub-assembly with screw and strainer unit and finally fit the filler cap assembly. The brake booster push rod inspection requires Special Service Tool: 09737-00013 to check the 0 mm (0 inch) clearance according to specifications. When making adjustments follow the instructions of Special Service Tool: 09737-00020 to operate the push rod and alter the protruding adjusting bolt length. The brake master cylinder sub-assembly installation requires 2 nuts to be tightened to 13 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) while Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 helps connect the 6 brake tubes at 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Finally reconnect the level warning switch connector. Check the brake fluid level, bleed the master cylinder with brake line while filling the reservoir and then reinstall the air cleaner assembly. Complete the process by inspecting for any brake fluid leakage.
