2005 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the rear No. 2 seat belt on 2005 Toyota Highlander?
A: The rear No. 2 seat belt replacement process starts with removing the rear No. 2 seat and then the rear seat lap type belt assembly RH after removing the bolt and belt until new assembly installation with 42 N.m (428 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf) torque. The procedure for the replacement of the rear seat inner belt assembly involves first removing the rear No. 2 seat followed by extraction of the 2 bolts and 2 belts before installing them with identical torque requirements. Keep the anchor section of the rear belt free from area where the floor panel protrudes. Removing all components from the tonneau cover along with deck board covers No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and rear seat reclining covers LH and RH, deck floor box RR, rear floor finish plate, deck side trim boxes LH and RH, rear No. 1 seats LH and RH, rear door opening trim Weather Strip RH, back door Weather Strip, rope hook, rear door scuff plate RH, and deck trim side panel RH starts the process for installing the rear No. 2 seat outer belt assembly RH. Use a screwdriver to open the rear No. 2 seat belt anchor cover RH while taping the tip before removing the bolt and shoulder anchor then the 2 bolts and belt. The new outer belt assembly RH installation requires checking the retractor angle to determine the belt functionality: if the inclination is lesser than 15 degrees the belt should emerge from the retractor and if it exceeds 45 degrees it should engage the lock function. Keep the retractor intact unless its operational functions are faulty; replace the outer belt assembly in such cases. The installation process requires fitting of the belt with 2 bolts where the upper bolt requires a torque setting at 7.5 N.m (77 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf) and the lower bolt needs 42 N.m (428 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf) along with securing the shoulder anchor with 42 N.m (428 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf).
