2005 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Transmission Speed Sensor on 2005 Toyota Avalon?
A: The first step to replace the Transmission Speed Sensor is disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. The maintenance process first requires removal of the air cleaner assembly together with air cleaner hose No.1, air cleaner bracket and air cleaner inlet No.1. To access the NT sensor remove both the bolt and the transmission revolution sensor following the disconnection of its speed sensor connector. Disconnection of the speed sensor connector along with bolt removal of the transmission revolution sensor applies to the NC sensor installation. The procedure includes applying ATF coating on the O-ring before installing the speed sensor with its bolt and torquing to 11 Nm (115 kgf-cm, 8 ft. lbs.) while ensuring correct manufacturer information on the label before connecting the speed sensor connector. Apply this procedure once again for the installation of the NT sensor. When putting both sensors into place finish the process by reattaching the air cleaner inlet No.1 followed by the air cleaner bracket and the air cleaner hose No.1 then the air cleaner assembly. After disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal you should reestablish its connection then run the initialization process because many systems need this procedure.
