2005 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the starter motor on 2005 Scion xB?
A: The starter motor replacement initiative starts by removing the engine under cover LH through bolt and nut removal then continues with the engine under cover RH removal when its bolts are taken out. The next step involves raising the flywheel housing side cover before removing it from its position. During starter assembly replacement start by removing the bolted nut and starter wire before detaching the starter connector along with disassembling the 2 bolts which secure the starter. The starter assembly mounting bolts must be fastened at 37 Nm (377 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf) while the nut requires 9.8 Nm (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf). When inserting the claw into the flywheel housing side cover you should keep pushing until it produces a "click" sound because a deformed claw indicates a new cover is needed. First install the engine under cover RH while torquing bolt and nut to 5.0 Nm (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) then install the engine under cover LH to the identical torque value.
