2004 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the starter motor on 2004 Scion xB?
A: Start with removing engine under cover LH by detaching the 4 bolts and the nut before proceeding to remove engine under cover RH by taking out its 4 bolts. The procedure continues with removal of the flywheel housing side cover by lifting it upward and pulling it out. During the starter assembly installation remove the nut followed by the starter wire and disconnect the starter connector before completing the bolt removal process. The bolt should be tightened to 37 Nm (377 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf) while the nut gets tightened to 9.8 Nm (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf). Install the flywheel housing side cover with proper placement of the claw which must click into position and replace the cover if the claw is deformed. The first step is to install the engine under cover RH by torquing bolt and nut to 5.0 Nm (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) each before moving on to install the engine under cover LH with similar torques for bolt and nut.
