2005 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the PARK/NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH ASSEMBLY (ATM) on 2005 Scion xB?
A: The first step to replace the PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY (ATM) requires battery removal. To disconnect the control cable from its components kitchen professionals should start by taking out the nut which separates the transmission control cable assembly from the control shaft lever followed by removing the clip between the control cable bracket and control cable. Begin by pulling out the connector of the park/neutral position switch assembly and proceed to remove the nut and washer and control shaft lever. The lock plate must be pried out before beginning manual valve shaft nut removal. Afterward, use the wrench to dismantle the two bolts from the park/neutral position switch assembly. The first step of installation requires you to mount the new assembly onto the manual valve shaft followed by adding a new lock plate and manually tightening the manual valve shaft nut to 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 in. lbs.). Begin by tightly installing the control shaft lever with the two mounting bolts then rotate it by counterclockwise to the stop point then clockwise two slots until removal. Align the groove with the neutral basic line and insert the switch to its position before tightening the 2 bolts to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in. lbs.). Use a screwdriver to stake the nut featuring the lock plate, after which you should install the control shaft lever along with a washer and nut before tightening them to reach 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Fit the connector to the park/neutral position switch assembly. The control cable receives a temporary installation process on the control shaft lever while secured by a nut before being attached to the bracket using a new clip. The battery replacement should be followed by positioning the shift lever while checking the shift lever position along with the park/neutral position switch assembly.
