2005 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel injector assembly on 2005 Scion xB?
A: As a first step to replace the fuel injector assembly one must discharge the fuel system pressure. First remove cylinder head cover No.2 by unfastening its 4 nuts. The next step requires disconnecting 4 ignition coil connectors before removing the combination of 4 bolts and ignition coils. The procedure to remove the cylinder head cover starts with disconnection ofosyelsones No. 2 along with the other ventilation hose then requires removal of 9 bolts and 2 nuts and 2 seal washers. Use Special Service Tool: 09268-21010 to disconnect the fuel tube while aligning its retainers through tool rotation until the tool moves towards the fuel tube assembly. The area needs to stay clean until final pipe disconnection and the nylon tube must not be bent. Start by pushing and pulling the connector if it feels stuck before covering the disconnected components to stop potential damage. Begin fuel delivery pipe removal by disconnecting 4 fuel injector connectors before unbolt the 3 fasteners and gently extract the fuel delivery pipe together with its 4 fuel injectors and remove the 2 spacers located on the cylinder head. Before installing new insulators and O-rings onto each fuel injector you must use a light amount of grease or gasoline to help the fitting process. You should feed the fuel delivery pipe towards the fuel injector at a time while making sure that the O-rings maintain a straight position and that the injectors rotate without impediments. Reinstall the 2 spacers onto the cylinder head before setting the fuel delivery pipe and its 4 fuel injectors. Use a torque of 19 N.m (194 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf) for bolt A while setting bolt B to 9.0 N.m (92 kgf.cm, 80 in.lbf). Tighten the 4 fuel injector connectors while simultaneously connecting the fuel tube. Check for damage in all connections and make sure they are properly fastened. Apply seal packing (Part No. 08826-00080 or equivalent) to the cylinder head cover subassembly with a clean surface. Install the cover within 3 minutes before tightening the 9 bolts and two nuts to 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf) along with installing two seal washers evenly. Tighten the 9 bolts, 2 nuts and 2 seal washers at every point to 10 Nm (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf) while reconnecting ventilation hoses and an installation of ignition coil No.1 with a tightness of 9.0 N.m (92 kgf.cm, 80 in.lbf). The last step involves checking for fuel leaks while installing cylinder head cover No.2 by tightening nut A first followed by nut B to 7.0 Nm (71 kgf.cm, 62 in.lbf).
