2005 Scion xA Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Service and Repair a Speed Sensor for Skid Control on 2005 Scion xA?
A: Begin the skid control sensor replacement task by detaching the wheel and then the sensor wire connector at its connection point. Before taking out the rear brake drum unit mark precisely both its and axle hub locations. Set the hub & bearing assembly assembly LH on a soft jaw vise before placing it back if you dropped it hard enough to disable the unit. Use a pin punch and a hammer to push out the two pins from Special Service Tool before taking off its two components. Detach the skid control sensor from the rear axle hub with Special Service Tools 09520-00031, 09521-00020, 09950-00020 and 2 bolts of 12 mm diameter and 1.5 mm pitch. Keep the sensor contact surface protected from damage during this process. Clean the exposed surfaces of both the hub and sensor unit before fitting the sensor onto the hub with its electrical connection at the bottom. Use Special Service Tool 09214-76011 and a press to put in the skid control sensor. This method reduces impact damage while guaranteeing no deposits confront the detection part. Reinsert the LH rear axle hub & bearing assembly then inspect axle alignment and space. Install the brake drum assembly correctly with its matchmarks. Connect the skid control sensor wire to its proper location and install the rear wheel by applying 103 Nm torque (103 kgf-cm, 76 foot pounds). To finish the process test the signal from the ABS speed sensor.
