2006 Scion xA Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Service and Repair a Speed Sensor on 2006 Scion xA?
A: Service and repairs of the wheel speed sensor should start by disconnecting the battery cable from the negative terminal then waiting at least 90 seconds to prevent Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. Detach the skid control sensor wire after removing the rear wheel then disconnect its connector. Before proceeded with the removal of the rear brake drum create matchmarks on both the drum and axle hub. Fix the hub and bearing assembly to a soft jaw vise prior to its use and obtain new components due to extreme shocks or drops. Press the 2 pins out from Special Service Tool: 09520-00031 (09520-00040) and detach the 2 accessories using a pin punch and a hammer. Special Service Tools including 09520-00031 (09520-00040) 09521-00020 and 09950-00020 with two bolts (Diameter: 12 mm, Pitch: 1.5 mm) should be used to extract the skid control sensor from the rear axle hub while protecting its contacting surface. Install the new skid control sensor onto the rear axle hub while placing its connector in the lowest possible position on the contacting surface which has been cleaned. Use Special Service Tool: 09214-76011 and a press to install the skid control sensor onto the rear axle hub by pressing it straight and doing so at a slow speed and without hammer contact. Return the rear axle hub assembly to its correct position while checking the rear axle geometric characteristics before putting on the rear brake drum. Reinstall the rear wheel by connecting the skid control sensor wire then tighten it to a torque of 103 N.m (1,050 kgf.cm, 76 ft.lbf). Perform initialization steps after reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal when particular systems need this step after the cable connection. Assess the signal sent by the ABS speed sensor.
