2005 Scion xA Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the PARK/NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH ASSEMBLY (ATM) on 2005 Scion xA?
A: Begin the PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY (ATM) replacement process by taking out the battery equipment. The installation process begins by disconnecting the control cable from the control shaft lever and the control cable bracket. First remove the transmission control cable assembly nut followed by removing the clip to detach the control cable from both components. Proceed by detaching the connector from the park/neutral position switch assembly and removing its components through the nut, washer, and control shaft lever followed by lock plate separation before removing the manual valve shaft nut. You need to remove the two bolts followed by pulling out the park/neutral position switch assembly. Attachment of the park/neutral position switch assembly begins by mounting it to the manual valve shaft followed by a new lock plate installation before torquing the manual valve shaft nut to 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 inch lbs). First install the two bolts and control shaft lever while rotating the lever counterwise until it reaches its endpoint then proceed with two clockwise positions before removing it. Position the groove on the neutral basic line and maintain the switch in this position before tightening the 2 bolts to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.). Chose a screwdriver to secure the nut with the lock plate before adding the control shaft lever with a washer and nut and finishing by tightening to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). The connector should be attached to the park/neutral position switch assembly before the installer attaches the control cable to the control shaft lever using the nut and installs the control cable onto the bracket with a new clip. The final steps include reattaching the battery followed by setting the correct shift lever positioning and checking both the shift lever position and park/neutral position switch assembly.
