2004 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2004 Toyota Tacoma?
A: Service and repair of the vacuum brake booster needs users to remove the master cylinder while disconnecting the vacuum hose from the brake booster and taking out the pedal return spring. The brake stock procedure begins with relaxing the clip and clevis pin while the technician then separates the brake booster by unfastening the clevis from the push rod and extracting the 4 installer nuts to finally remove the booster and its gasket. The next step requires removal of two stopper rings and a brake booster bracket along with its gasket from the brake booster. The brake booster installation requires users to place a new gasket on the booster followed by attaching the brake booster bracket and 2 stopper rings and securing the booster using the new gasket and 4 nuts with 13 Nm torque (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Reinstall the clevis onto the operating rod before placing the clevis pin inside the brake pedal and clevis and fastening it with the clip. The vacuum hose should be connected to the brake booster. Use Special Service Tool: 09737-00011 to place the tool onto the master cylinder and lower the pin until it makes a light touch with the piston. Position the Special Service Tool 09737-00011 upside down on the booster before checking its push rod's clearance to pin head measurement which should be precisely 0 mm (0 inch). Utilize Special Service Tool: 09737-00020 to modify the booster push rod length until it barely contacts the pin head. Reinstallation of the master cylinder must follow with brake fluid addition into the reservoir before performing brake system bleeding. To complete the brake system test you must check for fluid leaks after verifying and readjusting the brake pedal then perform an operational check.
