2004 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the front speed sensor on 2004 Toyota Tacoma?
A: Service of the front speed sensor for RZN191L-TRPDKAB, RZN196L-CRPDKAB, RZN196L-PRPDKAB, VZN195L-CRPDKAB, and VZN1GEL-PRPDKAB requires removal of the speed sensor connector at first. When servicing the sensor harness for 4WD and pre runner models with 2 clamp bolts or 2WD models except pre runner with 4 clamp bolts, ensure to torque the upper arm and steering knuckle bolts to 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.) and the side rail bolts to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Remove these bolts before proceeding. Using a 7mm Allen or socket wrench to loosen and tighten the installation bolt on the steering knuckle needs to be torqued to 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.). It is crucial to verify both the sensor and knuckle lack foreign materials before installation of the sensor while keeping it in contact with the knuckle flat while securing the bolt and using fresh resin clips. The installation process ends when the reverse sequence of removal steps are carried out with signal inspection of the speed sensor performed afterward.
