2004 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace a Sway Bar Kit on 2004 Toyota Sienna?
A: The front wheel removal procedure starts with sway bar link assembly detachments by dislodging the 2 nuts. The ball joint rotation should be restrained with a 6mm hexagon wrench to retain the sway bar kit (FF) position. Initialize the same method for the front sway bar link assembly on the right-hand side. Proceed to remove front sway bar bracket No.1 LH by uninstalling 2 brackets before working on the identical operations on the right side. To separate the tie rod assembly LH you should use Special Service Tool 09628-62011 and then complete the same process for the RH side. The pressure feed tube assembly should be disconnected with Special Service Tool: 09023-12700 before separating the steering intermediate shaft assembly to remove the rack & pinion power steering gear assembly. Separate the front sway bar bracket bush No.1 along with the sway bar kit front. Before installing the nut on the front sway bar link assembly LH you should flip the ball joint stud 5 times then measure its turning torque with a torque wrench on the 5th turn at 0.05 - 1.96 Nm (0.5 - 20 kgf-cm, 0.4 - 17.4 inch lbs.). Attach the front sway bar kit together with front sway bar bush No.1 before finalizing the bar with the bushing properly seated. After assembling the rack & pinion power steering gear assembly and steering intermediate shaft you should join the pressure feed tube assembly by using Special Service Tool: 09023-12700. Fitting the tie rod assembly LH and RH requires the same steps before installing the front sway bar bracket No.1 LH with two bolts at 17 Nm (173 kgf-cm, 12 ft. lbs.) followed by the RH side. Fasten the front sway bar link assembly components on the LH side with two nuts threaded to 74 Nm (755 kgf-cm, 55 ft. lbs.) tension while applying hexagon (6 mm) wrenches when needed. Then repeat the same procedure for the RH side. Install the front wheels with a torque of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) before inspecting the center front wheel and checking the steering wheel center point and adding power steering fluid with fluid bleeding followed by leak inspections and front wheel alignment check and adjustment.
