2004 Toyota Sienna Sway Bar Kit Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace the Sway Bar Kit on 2004 Toyota Sienna?
A: A 4WD front sway bar kit replacement starts with wheel removal before moving to both sides of the front sway bar link assembly. The same procedures apply identically on the left and right sides. You should first detach the exhaust pipe assembly center before disconnecting both bolts from the front sway bar bracket No.1 LH and performing the same steps on the front sway bar bracket No.1 RH. The procedure for front wheel replacement requires use of Special Service Tools: 09628-62011 to separate tie rod assemblies while 09023-12700 is required to split pressure feed tube assemblies before splitting steering intermediate shaft assemblies. The mechanic should disassemble the exhaust manifold heat insulator No.1 together with the rack & pinion power steering gear assembly, the manifold stay, and the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly. First remove bush No.1 from the front sway bar and then proceed to extract the sway bar itself. The front sway bar link assembly LH requires ball joint stud movement of five cycles to inspect for proper installation before classic nut installation with the torque reaching 0.05 - 1.96 Nm (0.5 - 20 kgf-cm, 0.4 - 17.4 inch lbs.) using a torque wrench. Use rear-side facing positioning to mount the front sway bar bush No.1 onto the sway bar before adding the sway bar itself. Reinstall the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly followed by the manifold stay then the exhaust manifold heat insulator No.1 and finally the steering intermediate shaft assembly and the rack & pinion power steering gear assembly. Using Special Service Tool 09023-12700 connect the pressure feed tube assembly and after that install the tie rod assemblies to each side of the vehicle. Fits front sway bar bracket No.1 LH with two bolts applied at 17 Nm torque (173 kgf-cm, 12 ft. lbs.) to this bracket and then do the same sequence for front sway bar bracket No.1 RH. The vehicle requires a pipe assembly center replacement so you should install the front sway bar link assemblies to both sides. The final step involves wheel replacement while inspecting the center wheel placement and steam wheel position followed by power steering fluid addition before fluid bleeding for leakage and wheel alignment tests.
