2004 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the starter motor on 2004 Toyota Sienna?
A: Start by removing both the battery and battery tray before starting the replacement of the starter motor. The air cleaner inlet No.2 requires disconnection of the VSV connector followed by wire harness clamp removal before unscrewing both bolts. Begin by disconnecting the mass air flow meter connector then separate the 3 vacuum hoses before loosening the 2 bolts on the air cleaner cap and air cleaner hose clamp bolt to remove the air cleaner assembly including the air cleaner hose No.1. You should then remove the air cleaner filter element while taking away the wire harness clamp with the attached wire harness. To complete the process unscrew the 3 bolts from the air cleaner case. Next, the air cleaner bracket requires unwinding its 2 bolts before you take out air cleaner inlet No.1 with the bolt removed. The starter assembly removal begins with disconnecting the starter connector followed by opening the terminal cap to take out the nut and starter wire before unscrewing the 2 bolts. For installation, torque the starter assembly bolts to 37 Nm (380 kgf.cm, 26 ft.lbf) and the nut to 9.8 Nm (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf). The installation process starts by torquing air cleaner inlet No.1 to 5.0 Nm (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf). The air cleaner bracket requires 7.8 Nm (80 kgf.cm, 69 in.lbf), while both the air cleaner assembly and air cleaner inlet No.2 need 5.0 Nm (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf). Close the process by reinstalling the battery tray along with the battery while tightening both the battery bolt and nut to 5.5 Nm (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf) and the terminal to 3.5 Nm (36 kgf.cm, 31 in.lbf).
