Removing the dust protector, field frame, and armature is necessary in order to service starter motor. Un screw the starter housing, clutch assembly, and gear. Take out the steel ball, brush holder and disconnect brushes. Take parts apart, lubricate parts, check the contact plate, and refit parts.
