Starter Assembly

A starter motor service requires first removing the battery together with its tray. Succeeding in disassembly of the actuator and bracket requires disconnecting its connector and clamp while removing 3 mounting bolts. Unplug the starter connector before removing two screws as well as the throttle wire clamp (A/T) to extract the starter. The completion of starter motor repair requires disconnecting the starter cable followed by reinstalling the nut where a torque of 37 N.m (380 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf) must be applied. After this the two bolts securing the starter can be removed. For installation, torque the bolts to 39 N.m (398 kgf.cm, 29 ft.lbf) and terminal 30 to 13 N.m (130 kgf.cm, 9 ft.lbf).

An on-vehicle inspection must begin all starter motor repair services through testing the connector connections along with accessory components like theft deterrent systems. Start the elimination sequence by handling out the battery while simultaneously removing the tray component. To access the starter motor first owners should disconnect their cruise control actuator through its connector interface and clamp before removing 3 mounting bolts that separate the actuator with bracket. You need to disconnect the starter connection then remove the two bolts while taking out the throttle cable clamp which is used with manual transmission systems. From the last step remove the nut before disconnecting the starter wire and apply the same torque of 37 Nm (380 kg.cm, 27 ft.lb) during assembly. The assembly procedure requires the reverse sequence used for dismantling the system.

The process of servicing and repairing the starter motor starts with taking out the battery along with the tray. Before starting the repair of the starter motor cruiser control system owners should disconnect the actuator connector and clamp then remove 3 bolts which detach the actuator assembly with its bracket. First disconnect the A/T shift control cable as well as the engine wire and starter connector. The first step is to remove the nut that disconnects the wire before uninstalling 2 bolts and the A/T shift control cable clamp along with the starter motor by applying torque of 37 N.m (380 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf). Repeat the process for the rear bearing.

Begin by removing the battery and tray.

The torque specification is 1.5 N.m.

The bolts should be torqued to 39 Nm (400 kg.cm, 29 ft.lb).

Use the same tool to remove and press in a new bearing.

Disconnect the starter connector, remove the nut and terminal 30, and take out the starter by removing two bolts.

Check for continuity between the lead wire and field coil brush lead, replacing the field frame if there is no continuity, and check for continuity between the field coil brush lead and field frame, repairing or replacing the field frame if necessary.

Place an O-ring in the groove of the field frame, align the protrusion of the field frame with the groove of the magnetic switch, secure the field frame and armature assembly with 2 through bolts, torquing to 5.9 N.m, and connect the lead wire to the C terminal with the nut, also torquing to 5.9 N.m.

Begin by removing the starter yoke assembly, which involves taking off the starter cover, disconnecting the lead wire from the C terminal, and removing the 2 through bolts to pull out the field frame with the armature assembly, followed by removing the O-ring from the starter yoke.

Disconnect the hose from the fluid level guide for automatic transmission vehicles.

Reconnect the hose to the fluid level guide.

The armature can then be removed from the field frame.

9.8 N.m (100 kg.cm, 87 in.lb).

Remove the nut and ensure a torque of 5.9 N.m (60 kg.cm, 52 in.lb).

Begin by removing the dust protector.

Clean the contact surfaces.

The reinstallation follows the reverse order of removal.
