Q: How to service and repair the wheel bearing on 2004 Toyota RAV4?
A: The first step for wheel bearing service requires users to detach the lower ball joint through a process starting with nut removal and cotter pin extraction followed by the use of Special Service Tool: 09628-62011. The removal process starts with the axle hub extraction using Special Service Tool: 09520-00031 followed by Special Service Tools: 09950-40011 and others for extracting the inner race from the axle hub. Start by uninstalling the dust cover through T30 torx socket by removing its four bolts. The replacement of the bearing from the steering knuckle requires snap ring pliers to extract the snap ring and place the inner race outside of the bearing before utilizing Special Service Tools 09527-17011 and 09950-60010 or 09951-00540 and 09950-70010 (09951-07150) to remove it through a press. To complete installation reinstall a new bearing into the steering knuckle through Special Service Tool: 09606-32010, 09950-70010 (09951-07150) alongside a press before adding a new snap ring manually with snap ring pliers. The next step requires attachment of the dust cover that needs to be fastened using torx socket (T30) and 8.0 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.) torque. The front axle hub installation requires Special Service Tools 09527-17011 and 09950-60010, 09951-00370 and 09950-70010 / 09951-07150 together with a press unit. Use Special Service Tool: 09606-32010, 09950-70010 (09951-07150) and a press to install the lower ball joint. Tighten its nut to 133 Nm (1,360 kgf-cm, 98 ft. lbs.) before securing it with a new cotter pin while adjusting the nut to 60 degrees when the holes miss alignment.
