2004 Toyota MR2 Spyder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on 2004 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: The luggage compartment trim box cover should be removed first followed by disconnecting the ECU connectors and return hose where the clip will need removal. Start by using Special Service Tool: 09023-12700 to disconnect the pressure feed tube and follow by removing the power steering vane pump through a procedure of 2 bolt and nut removal while taking out 3 washers. Install the power steering vane pump by positioning it correctly then fasten it using two bolts and a nut together with three washers while tightening to 19 Nm (190 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). To connect the pressure feed tube you must use Special Service Tool: 09023-12700 while applying a torque of 39.5 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.) with a torque wrench which has a 345 mm (11.81 inch) fulcrum length. Connect the return hose by reusing its clip while also reconnecting the ECU connectors. Bleed power steering fluids before putting on the luggage compartment trim box cover.
