2004 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the PARK/NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH ASSY (U241E/U140F) on 2004 Toyota Highlander?
A: The process to change the PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY (U241E/U140F) starts by removing ENGINE UNDER COVER NO.1 and continuing with TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSY separation through control shaft lever nut removal followed by disconnecting the lever from control cable and bracket clip removal. The PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY can be removed by disassembling the nut followed by washer then control shaft lever before using tools to pry out the lock plate and unscrewing the manual valve shaft nut and finally taking out the 2 bolts which allows the switch to be pulled out. To install the park/neutral position switch position it on the manual valve shaft followed by adding a new lock plate which should be torqued to 6.9 nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 inch lbs.). The two bolts and the control shaft lever need to be installed before adjusting the clockwise rotation twice from the stop position. Synchronize the switch groove with the neutral basic line while maintaining its position before torquing the two bolts to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.). Tighten the nut with the lock plate using a screwdriver to stake it for proper security. After installing the control shaft lever together with a washer and nut apply torque at 12.7 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Secure the control cable to the control shaft lever with nuts while you connect the control cable along with its clip to the bracket. Check and verify the position of the shift lever while inspecting the park/neutral position switch assembly.
