2004 Toyota 4Runner Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the rear spoiler on 2004 Toyota 4Runner?
A: A replacement of the rear spoiler starts by removing 2 grommets and 2 bolts followed by removing the spoiler along with disconnecting the center stop lamp connector. Start by removing the center stop lamp assembly through removing its two securing bolts. The drill tip used for cutting rear spoiler clip No.1 must be smaller than Dia 4 mm (0.16 in.) while tape coverage should extend 5 mm (0.20 in.) to depth to avoid damaging the drill. Put the drill tip delicately on the rivet to cut its flanges while removing the rivet but handle both processes cautiously because the newly cut rivet will remain hot. Take away the 2 spoiler clips which are attached to the back door panel. The proper installation of rear spoiler clip No.1 requires an air riveter or hand riveter with a nose piece to strike waterproof Dia 4 mm rivets perpendicularly at the body panel to prevent mandrel bending. After installing the center stop lamp assembly with its two bolts tighten them until reaching 2.5 N.m of torque (25 kgf.cm or 22 in.lbf). You should connect the center stop lamp connector while also installing the spoiler with 2 bolts and 2 grommets before torquing to 7.0 N.m (71 kgf.cm, 62 in.lbf).
