2004 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Clutch Slave Cylinder Assembly (MTM) on 2004 Scion xB?
A: The first step to work on Clutch Release Cylinder Assembly (MTM) involves disconnecting its flexible hose tube with Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 while gathering fluid into a container. The service requires removal of the clutch release cylinder assembly by first removing its securing bolts. The first step involves removing the union bolt as well as the clutch release union and two gaskets in sequence. Start by disassembling the clutch release cylinder kit by taking away the boot and push rod along with the piston from the cylinder body while protecting the internal components from damage. You must take away both the bleeder plug cap and spring from the bleeder plug. Proceed by installing the bleeder plug first then move to installing the clutch release cylinder kit by attaching the bleeder plug cap followed by new spring addition before greasing the new piston with lithium soap base glycol grease and finishing with push rod and boot installation. Install the clutch release union by fastening the union bolt and applying two new gaskets using a torque of 25 Nm (250 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.). Keep the installing angle at 0 - 3 degrees against the body. Fasten the clutch release cylinder assembly through its two bolts while torquing it to 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). The flexible hose tube should be connected to the clutch release cylinder by using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 and tightening to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Complete the brake reservoir tank with brake fluid and perform a clutch bleeding operation while tightening the clutch system to 8.4 Nm (86 kgf-cm, 74 in. lbs.) to check for any clutch fluid leakage.
