2004 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Seat Position Air Bag Sensor on 2004 Scion xB?
A: The first step to replace the Seat Position Air Bag Sensor involves following restraint systems service precautions and disconnecting the battery negative terminal. The first maintenance step includes removal of the front seat track cover LH rear outer followed by the seat track bracket cover inner LH and finally extracting the front seat assembly LH. Begin by removing the seat position Air Bag sensor connector then install the torx socket wrench (T30) to unscrew the torx screw that also releases the sensor. Install the new seat position Air Bag sensor by starting the operation only after disconnecting the battery negative terminal for at least 90 seconds while ensuring the ignition switch remains off. Apply torx socket wrench (T30) for mounting the sensor while applying 8.0 Nm (82 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf) torque. The sensor needs replacement with a new one if you see signs of dropping or presence of cracks dents or defects. The SRS wiring must be positioned to avoid any contact or constriction by other installed parts. Check for any possible installation looseness after connecting the sensor connector. The final step requires installation of the front seat assembly LH by applying 37 Nm (375 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf) torque and verifying the proper operation of SRS warning light.
