2004 Scion xA Brake Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Brake Master Cylinder on 2004 Scion xA?
A: Draining brake fluid should be the first step for Brake Master Cylinder replacement followed by cleaning any painttarcted surfaces with water. The first step requires the disconnection of clutch reservoir tube for M/T transaxle alongside the removal of air cleaner cap sub-assembly. The brake master cylinder removal process starts with disconnecting the level warning light switch connector then using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 to unfasten the two brake lines from the brake master cylinder sub-assembly. Chassis workers should unfasten both nuts and exit the brake master cylinder sub-assembly. It is necessary to begin brake master cylinder reservoir sub-assembly work by extracting the reservoir stopper and then removing the reservoir including two grommets and separating cap as well as strainer. The installation process begins with applying lithium soap base glycol grease to both grommets which need to be mounted onto the master cylinder before attaching the cap along with the strainer. Install the brake master cylinder reservoir assembly while fitting the tank stopper into its groove between the reservoir and master cylinder. Inspection of brake booster push rod requires observing it without vacuum while depressing the brake pedal multiple times when the engine remains off. Position the accessory tool on the brake booster assembly after applying chalk to its tip. Inspect the space between the push rod and the tool using the device provided with new brake master cylinder sub-assemblies for a 0-mm (0 inch) size clearance. Users must employ Special Service Tool: 09737-00020 to both stabilize the push rod and modify the extending adjusting bolt length when the brake pedal stays depressed in correct configuration. The brake master cylinder sub-assembly receives installation onto the booster which requires two nuts torqued to 13 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) then the two brake lines should be reconnected using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 torqued to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) while the level warning light switch connector should be connected. Familiarize the clutch reservoir tube for the M/T transaxle before installing the air cleaner cap sub-assembly and filling up brake fluid. Complete the bleeding process by bleeding the master cylinder and brake line and M/T transaxle clutch pipe line. The final step includes monitoring the reservoir fluid level while inspecting for brake fluid leakages.
