    Q:
How to service and repair the brake master cylinder on Scion xA? Posted by Customer
    A:
Brake service and repair of the master cylinder begins by draining brake fluid before washing off fluid that reaches painted surfaces. The service begins by removing both the air cleaner cap sub-assembly and disconnecting the clutch reservoir tube by sliding the clip. The brake master cylinder subassembly needs removal after disconnecting the level warning light switch connector and using Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to disconnect the 2 brake lines followed by removing 2 nuts to pull out the brake master cylinder. The brake master cylinder reservoir sub-assembly requires users to extract the stopper from the reservoir before removing it along with 2 grommets and separating the cap and strainer from its base. The installation process requires lubricating two new grommets with lithium soap base glycol grease then placing them on the brake master cylinder followed by the cap and strainer on the reservoir before securing the reservoir by reinstalling its stopper. Install the brake master cylinder to the booster by secure it with 2 nuts reaching a torque of 13 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Then use Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to fasten the 2 brake lines with a torque of 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) without the tool or 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.) with it, utilizing a torque wrench that has a 30 cm (11.81 inch) fulcrum length. First connect the level warning light switch connector then install the clutch reservoir tube before placing the air cleaner cap sub-assembly back in position while filling the reservoir with brake fluid then releasing air from the brake master cylinder and brake line and clutch line. The final safety check involves assessing brake fluid in the reservoir while also looking for any evidence of fluid leakages.
