2003 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Brake Pad Set on 2003 Toyota Tundra?
A: Begin by removing the front wheel to check the pad lining length which needs to exceed 1.0 mm (0.039 inch) before pad replacement. You must remove the clip and two pins and anti-rattle spring subsequent to the two pads and four anti-squeal shims. The anti-rattle spring and clip can be reinstalled if they remain in good condition and are devoid of rust, dirt, and any foreign elements. Disc thickness along with runout should be checked before pad installation while new anti-squeal shims need to be integrated when installing the pads. Guide a small brake fluid amount out of the reservoir before manually pressing piston wheels with an equivalent of monkey wrench handle while taped to prevent opposing piston ejection; loosen the bleeder plug as needed to release brake fluid when piston insertion becomes difficult. When you install new pads apply disc brake grease to both faces of the inner shims then place the anti-squeal shims on the pads before installing them without grease reaching their rubbing surfaces. Install the front wheel after inserting both anti-rattle components and pins through the pads and clamping them using the clip. Tighten this assembly to 113 Nm (1,150 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.). To complete the procedure you should first press the brake pedal several times while checking that the fluid level reaches the max line.
