2003 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the Sway Bar Kit on 2003 Toyota Tacoma?
A: The sway bar kit servicing process begins by removing front wheels and properly tightening them to 110 Nm (1,150 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.). The sway bar kit removal begins by unscrewing 2 nuts and sway bar link and 2 retainers and 2 bushings while tightening the sway bar kit side to 29.5 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.) and the lower arm side to 90 Nm (920 kgf-cm, 66 ft. lbs.); if the ball joint stud moves with the nut apply a hexagon wrench to keep the stud secure. Complete the procedure by removing both 4 bolts alongside the sway bar kit stuff and metal brackets at 29 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.) torque. Take off the brackets and cushions from the sway bar kit before assembly while placing the cushion inside the paint line. The ball joint stud needs to be examined for proper rotation before nut installation by performing 5 full rotations with the ball joint stud. The torque wrench operation entails a slow and continuous 1-turn rotation every 2 - 4 seconds before recording torque measurements at the 5th turn between 0.05 - 2.0 Nm (0.5 - 20 kgf-cm, 0.4 - 17 inch lbs.). Reverse removal order is used for completing installation steps.
