After that, disconnect the rear shock absorber by removing the bolt, in which a torque of 26 Nm (260 kgf-cm, 19 ft. lbs.) is needed for 2WD (except pre runner) or a torque of 71 Nm (730 kgf-cm, 53 ft. lbs.) is required for 4WD and pre runner. The U-bolt mounting nuts and washers should first be removed from the 4 mounting points before extracting the spring seat and U-bolts with a torque of 123 Nm (1,250 kgf-cm, 90 ft. lbs.). The U-bolts must be of equal length during this process. When performing the repair on 4WD and pre runner models remove the spring bumper. The spring clip needs to be first prised up then the center bolt must be removed while holding the spring steady using a vise. Next drill off the rivet head before installing a new rivet followed by tightening the spring center bolt to 44 Nm (450 kgf-cm, 33 ft. lbs.) before bending the clip back into position. When replacing the spring bumper on 2WD models (all except pre runner) perform the operation with a torque setting at 29 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.). Organization of installation follows the exact reverse sequence of removal steps.
