2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Clutch Slave Cylinder on 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: Service and repair of the Clutch Slave Cylinder requires front engine under cover removal at the start of the operation. To disconnect the clutch line from the release cylinder you must use Special Service Tool: 0902-00100 while catching the fluid in a container. The two release cylinder securing bolts need removal before extracting the component. First remove the boot containing the push rod and then pull it off from the push rod for disassembly work. You should use compressed air while holding the piston and spring in place with your hand through a waste cloth to extract them safely from the cylinder. By doing so you prevent the piston from jumping out and prevent brake fluid from splashing. To install, lubricate the piston with lithium soap base glycol grease before placing it and its spring inside the cylinder before fitting the push rod boot assembly to the cylinder. You should tighten the release cylinder with the two bolts at 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Use Service Tool: 09023-00100 to link the clutch line to the release cylinder before tightening it to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) torque values using a torque wrench with an adjusted length to 30 cm (11.81 inches). The process includes filling the reservoir followed by bleeding the clutch system while supporting the vehicle securely before leak inspection and front engine under cover reinstallation.
