2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Clutch Slave Cylinder on 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: The service procedure for the Clutch Slave Cylinder begins by removing the front engine under cover. Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 allows disconnecting the clutch line from the release cylinder. An appropriate container should be used to receive any escaped fluid. Before proceeding remove the release cylinder by extracting its two bolts. You can disassemble the unit by first extracting the boot through the push rod then removing it from the rod. The cleaning process demands pressurized air with which you should remove the piston assembly while holding it gently with waste cloth to stop it from jumping out and prevent brake fluid from spraying. To reassemble the assembly start by coating the piston with lithium soap base glycol grease before installing the piston and spring into the cylinder and finally inserting the boot with push rod to the cylinder. Install the release cylinder with its 2 bolts while torquing them to 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm and 9 ft. lbs.). The release cylinder accepts the clutch line through Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 which requires a torque measure of 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.) when using the tool or 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) when using it without the tool. Bleed and fill the clutch system reservoir after securely supporting the vehicle while you check to see if any leakiness exists. Finally, reinstall the front engine undercover.
