2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Clutch Slave Cylinder on 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: Start the Clutch Slave Cylinder servicing or repair process by taking off the front engine under cover. Use Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 to disconnect the clutch line from the release cylinder while collecting fluid through a container. A technician needs to take out the 2 release cylinder bolts to perform the removal step. The boot with the push rod needs to be pulled out before extracting the boot from the push rod to disassemble. Use compressed air to disconnect the cylinder piston and spring carefully while maintaining contact with the piston through your hand covered by a waste cloth to stop it from springing out and prevented brake fluid from spilling. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to the piston first and afterward place the piston with spring into the cylinder before installing the boot with push rod. Reassembly requires the 2 bolts to be positioned onto the release cylinder before tightening it to 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs. of torque). The clutch line must receive the release cylinder through Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 which requires a 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.) torque when using the tool but 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) otherwise under 30 cm (11.81 inch) torque wrench fulcrum length. Check for leaks after filling the reservoir and bleeding the clutch system while supporting the vehicle properly and reinstall the front engine under cover.
