2004 Toyota MR2 Spyder Clutch Slave Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Clutch Slave Cylinder on 2004 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: You should start Clutch Slave Cylinder service by removing the front engine under cover. The proper use of Special Service Tool: 0902-00100 allows disconnecting the clutch line from the release cylinder while capturing fluid waste in a container. First disconnect the two bolts attaching the release cylinder before you can remove it. The disassembly steps involve extracting the boot with push rod then removing both components from the push rod. You should use compressed air to carefully extract the cylinder piston assembly with its spring from the cylinder, while keeping the piston between your hand with protective waste cloth to prevent its jump and brake fluid spillage. Place lithium soap base glycol grease on the piston before inserting it and the spring inside the cylinder and finally attach the boot with push rod to the cylinder. Two bolts secure the release cylinder through installation while torquing reaches 12 Nm which corresponds to 120 kgf-cm and 9 ft. lbs. To join the clutch line with the release cylinder apply Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 while tightening it to 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.) when using the tool or 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) without the tool. The installation requires a torque wrench with a 30 cm (11.81 inches) fulcrum length. The filling of reservoir water and clutch system bleeding can be completed by ensuring stable vehicle support before verifying any leakages and reinstalling the front engine under cover.
