2003 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the windshield on 2003 Toyota Highlander?
A: The windshield replacement process requires removal of front pillar garnish LH and RH and LH and RH visor assemblies and a subsequent removal of visor holder and courtesy lens followed by roof console box assembly (without sliding roof) or roof console L/relay box assembly (with sliding roof) and assist grip sub-assembly along side front door opening trim Weather Strip LH and RH and the roof headlining assembly that must extend to a range suitable for windshield glass extraction. You should detach the front wiper arms LH and RH along with the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly and windshield moulding outside LH and RH by using screwdrivers and protective tape to remove clips and hooks. You should drill the headlights gently to cut rivet flanges from windshield outside molding clip No.1 before finishing the windshield outer upper cut with a knife while protecting the body from damage. The deformation of the windshield glass requires moving the inner rear view mirror assembly while also disconnecting the connector that operates the window defogger if present. To proceed with the adhesive removal process the piano wire must cut through the glue while the surface remains protected by tape. Scrape off all damaged stoppers, dam, and adhesive from the windshield glass before installing new stoppers No.1 and No.2 when required. Apply the window glass adhesive dam and windshield glass by first cleaning the contact surface of the body then applying Primer M and Primer G followed by adhesive paste No. 08550-00801 or equivalent. Complete the glass installation process by placing the glass with suction rubber to match reference points and gently push the glass rim until stoppers and clearance meet specifications. First inspect the windshield moulding outer upper then do a water leak test when adhesive fully cures before using sealant to cover any spots. After applying appropriate positioning use an air riveter or hand riveter to install windshield outside moulding clip No.1.
