2004 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the windshield on 2004 Toyota Highlander?
A: The windshield replacement process should start with removal of front pillar garnish LH and RH then proceed to take off LH and RH visor assemblies and the visor holder followed by courtesy lens extraction of roof console box assembly (without sliding roof) either with roof console L/relay box assembly (with sliding roof) and assist grip sub-assembly and front door opening trim Weather Strip LH and RH together with roof headlining assembly. All steps must happen within the appropriate windshield glass removal range. Proceed to eliminate the front wiper arms LH and RH along with cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly and windshield moulding outside LH and RH by using protective tape and a screwdriver to remove clips and hooks. Drill the rivet flanges of windshield outside molding clip No.1 gently before using a knife to cut the upper part off the molding while taking care to not damage the vehicle body. The first step includes detaching the inner rear view mirror assembly along with windshield glass while disconnecting the connector when a window defogger exists. A piano wire allows cutting the adhesive though workers must protect surfaces using tape and plastic sheets. Clean the windshield glass through stopper scraping before cleaning it with cleaner without hand contact. Install two new stoppers onto the glass for windshield glass stopper No.1 and use stoppers No.2 only if there is an outer mirror heater installed on the body. Start by installing both window glass adhesive dams including the second one. After handling the body contact surface, attempt to leave as much adhesive as possible. Apply suction rubber underneath the glass then verify the smoothness of its rim and apply reference markings before taking off the glass. Apply Primer M across the body contact surface then allow it to dry for at least 3 minutes before using Primer G but wipe off accidental coatings dead before dry time begins. Use adhesive from part No. 08550-00801 or equivalent after cutting the cartridge nozzle while it remains within the specified time period. To install the glass follow the reference marks while pressing softly on the rim in order to check stoppers and clearances and remove excess adhesive with a scraper. To complete the installation, place new outer upper windshield moulding on the body while performing a water-leak test which should be followed by leak sealing with suitable sealant. The air riveter or hand riveter should be used to install windshield outside moulding clip No.1 while maintaining a correct position to protect against damage.
