2003 Toyota 4Runner Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Side Air Bag Sensor Assy LH on 2003 Toyota 4Runner?
A: Start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal and then proceed with removing the front and rear door scuff plates together with front and rear door opening trim Weather Strips. Begin sensor replacemnt by first removing the lap belt outer anchor cover and secondly taking off the center pillar garnish lower LH. Separate the front seat outer belt assy LH and the side air bag sensor assy LH from installation by removing 2 nuts and disconnecting the connector. A diagnostic worker should check the side air bag sensor assy LH before repairs occur through proper cycling of the side Air Bag sensor connector and attachment of the 2 nuts which must be torqued at 17.5 N.m (178 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf). To ensure a proper installation the sensor assembly needs to be present when installing the connector while thoroughly checking the sensor assembly for damage alongside validating that the SRS wiring maintains clearance from nearby components. Post-installation confirmation of sensor assembly security should be achieved through assembly shaking. Following front seat outer belt installation on the left hand side you should tighten upper and lower bolts with torques of 7.5 N.m (76 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf) and 42 N.m (420 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf) respectively before checking the SRS warning light.
